What is Reckoner?
Reckoner is an AI analytics console that answers questions about your business in plain English. You type something like “which stores sold less this Sunday than last Sunday”, and it replies with a table or chart. Every figure comes from a query run against real rows in your database. The model does not make numbers up.
It is live at console.restrologic.com, and the analytics assistant inside it has been running since 30 August 2026.
Why computed figures matter
An AI that writes a fluent answer from memory is risky for finance and operations. Reckoner takes a different route. The model writes a query, the query runs on your data, and the result comes back as the answer.
This is the difference between a chatbot and an analytics tool. A chatbot can sound right and be wrong. A computed result can be checked, and you can see the rows behind it.
How does it keep your data safe?
Reckoner keeps data safe by checking every query before it runs. The SQL is parsed and verified to be read-only, and it can only touch the stores that belong to your account. A question cannot trigger an update or a delete, and one client cannot see another client’s numbers.
We wrote about this approach in detail in an analytics agent that is read-only and tenant-safe. Agents that run code do so in throwaway sandboxes with no network access.
What can you ask it?
You can ask the same questions you would ask an analyst, without waiting for a report. Some examples from restaurant work:
- Which items sold best last month in each brand?
- How did weekend sales compare with weekdays across outlets?
- Which stores had the most discounts this week?
- What is the stock variance for dairy since the last count?
Answers come back with charts where a chart helps. The assistant also searches documents you upload, so a question can draw on a price list or a policy file as well as on sales rows.
How does it learn?
Reckoner learns from corrections. When you tell it that an answer was wrong or that a term means something specific in your business, it keeps that for next time. An AI judge scores the quality of its answers, so weak responses can be found and fixed instead of going unnoticed.
The model is chosen per client. We can use Claude, GPT, DeepSeek or Qwen through OpenRouter, depending on cost, speed and your preferences.
What does it connect to?
Reckoner works with the Restrologic POS suite out of the box. There is nothing to map: the sales, menu, store and inventory tables are already known to it. For other databases we connect on request. Tell us what you run and we will say honestly what a connection involves.
If you need reports on a schedule, dashboards, or a data model built for your business, our restaurant data analytics and BI service covers that work. Reckoner is the conversational layer on top.
Reckoner or a dashboard?
A dashboard answers the questions someone thought of in advance. Reckoner answers the next question, the one that comes up in a meeting.
| Fixed dashboard | Reckoner | |
|---|---|---|
| Questions it answers | Those built in advance | Any the data can answer |
| Who can use it | People who know where to click | Anyone who can type a question |
| Time to a new answer | Days, through a request | Seconds |
| Source of figures | Pre-built queries | A query run on real rows |
| Best for | Daily tracking | Exploring and checking |
Most teams use both. Dashboards stay on the wall, and Reckoner handles follow-up questions.
Where does it sit in our AI work?
Reckoner is a product built from the same techniques we use in client projects. If you want an agent of your own, for your documents, your data or your workflow, see our AI agents service.
